Jesus has many titles. Some of those titles He gives Himself, some acknowledge relationships with Jesus, others are given to Him; all of the titles of Jesus help us understand more and more who He is and what He has come to do. As we continue to work through what it means for Jesus to say “I am the bread of life” it is good to recognize that there are a total of seven ‘I am’ statements made by Jesus in the Gospel of John. These seven statements are:
I am the bread of life | I am the light of the world | I am the door |
I am the good shepherd | I am the resurrection and the life | I am the way, the truth, and the life |
I am the true vine |
These I am statements, however, are just the beginning as there are many ways to refer to Jesus. I have looked around and there is no perfect list from what I have found. What follows is a list I have put together but I am certain this list too is missing something. The reality is that Jesus is all things to all people and so there really can never be a perfect list of ways to recognize and acknowledge the many attributes of our Lord.
