“In Unity there is Peace.” 6-12-2022

Trinity Sunday – C

The Church, in her wisdom appropriately places the celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity the weekend following Pentecost. When we speak of the Trinity, we can try to understand Unity in the Trinity and how that brings about peace and harmony in our lives and in the world in which we live.

In the Trinity, the most mysterious, the most profound theological concept that we have as church, there is perfect unity and harmony between the three persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This harmony and unity are what gives our church the reason for existence.

The Father reveals himself as the Creator. The Son reveals himself as the Savior. The Spirit reveals himself as the Spirit of holiness and truth.

Each person in the Trinity played a unique role in the creation, salvation, and sanctification process of humanity. The role of the Trinity was to create, rearrange to make better, and strengthen to make holy the result.

God created the world through his own creativity. We can never make the world or anything in it more than what God intended it to be. But we certainly can and certainly must see to it that such things are never less than God intended them to be.

Jesus came, not to abolish the race, but to rearrange things so that our world would be in such a way that there would be strength where there was weakness, peace where there was turmoil, companionship where there was isolation and loneliness.

Finally, we are guided by the Spirit, the Third person of the Trinity, to call the world away from its values, its practices, when those are unreal, dishonest, superficial, racist, prejudiced and not life-giving.!

As parish communities, both St. Aloysius and St. Benedict, we have been created by God, saved by Christ, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit to make the world a better place! What better way than to come together as a faith community sharing our gifts and talents to see what can happen in a parish, a community, a world, where everyone works together in perfect harmony for a holy unity that shows the world, that we, as a faith community, can move away from the world’s values, its practices, when those are unreal, dishonest, superficial, hateful and non-life-giving.

Let us celebrate then the unity and harmony of the Most Holy Trinity, as we come together and show this community of Shepherdsville and  Lebanon Junction what we can do with our creativity, our gifts and talents – that we are a people of God; created in His likeness, redeemed by Christ and sanctified by the Holy Spirit to be a people of Peace, Harmony, Unity and Love.

When someone you know wants to lead you down a path of cynicism, division, hatred, prejudice or a path that is not life-giving, show them, tell them, encourage them to take the road less traveled, the road to unity, harmony, love and peace that can only be found in Christ Jesus our Lord, through the Holy Trinity.
