June 2, 2024
In June, the Universal Church looks to The Sacred Heart of Jesus as our monthly devotion. The Sacred Heart reminds us of the power of God-made-man taking on flesh, having a living, beating heart, a heart that has bled for the love of all humankind. The devotion to the Sacred Heart began with St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, who received private revelations (conversations) with Jesus Christ. He spoke to her in June of 1675, asking her specifically to promote a feast that honored His Sacred Heart, saying:
“I ask of you that the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi be set apart for a special Feast to honor My Heart, by communicating on that day, and making reparation to It by a solemn act, in order to make amends for the indignities which It has received during the time It has been exposed on the altars. I promise you that My Heart shall expand Itself to shed in abundance the influence of Its Divine Love upon those who shall thus honor It, and cause It to be honored.”
The Sacred Heart is an image that reminds all the faithful that God humbled Himself to become man, take on flesh, and shed His Precious Blood for our salvation. In a world that focuses so much on pride, may we as a Christian people desire the virtue of humility all the more as we pray:
O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you and I desire a lively sorrow for my sins. I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessings on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Within your heart I place my every care. In every need let me come to you with humble trust saying, Heart of Jesus, help me. Amen.
In Gratitude to:
· The Knights of Columbus, out of Saint Francis Xavier, for constructing and installing the very well built food box for the hungry. This food box is located in the yard in front of Saint Aloysius Church and I encourage you to check it out.
· All those who had a hand in planning and preparing for the May Processions that took place on Mother’s Day at both parishes. It was a wonderful opportunity to pray and sing in response to all our Blessed Mother has done for us.
Requests For:
•Your assistance in keeping the food box at Saint Aloysius well stocked for those in need, after all, we are told that in feeding the hungry we feed Christ himself.
Two Parishes, One Heart,
Fr. Adam
