Pastor's Corner

April – Gratitude & Requests

April 7, 2024

During April, the Universal Church turns her focus to the Holy Spirit. The priest can wear red on only some occasions throughout the Church year, and those reasons center on either blood or the Holy Spirit. Pentecost, Confirmations, and other celebrations of the Holy Spirit throughout the year (for example, there is a tradition of having a Mass for the Holy Spirit at the start of the school year) form one-half of this dynamic. Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and celebrations of the Martyrs form the other half. Two realities that shape our experience of the Church in ways that are beyond measure are the powerful grace of the Holy Spirit alive amongst us and the example of Christ laying down His life for us and how others throughout the centuries have followed that example. To this day, as difficult as it is to imagine, people are filled with the Holy Spirit and the gift of courage, leading them to give their lives in the name of Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit will not let us be. The Holy Spirit moves us in ways that we are unable to imagine. Let us open our hearts to that same Holy Spirit together in our lives and families.

In Gratitude to:

· All the many volunteers who made our fish fries possible. I was consistently amazed by the teamwork that went into making these events possible at both of our parishes!

· For those who came to the Seder Meal at Saint Aloysius, it was a wonderful and, at times, surprising event. A big thank you to Rose and her team for putting it all together!

· The Sweatmons, the Amshoffs, Becky Able, and all of those who helped decorate for our wonderful Holy Week and Easter celebrations! Both parishes looked fantastic!

· All who participated in the Holy Week liturgies, especially

Easter Sunday. I was so happy to see the number of people

who came out to worship our Resurrected Lord!

· The many people who had the courage to come to Reconciliation, especially when I had the 12 hours of confession time on Holy Saturday. I wasn’t nearly as bored as I feared!

· For all of you. I am so blessed to be pastor of two truly amazing communities!

Requests for:

· Your special prayers for Archbishop Shelton Fabre not only because he has come to install me as your pastor but because he is beginning his third year of ministry here in the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Two Parishes, One Heart,
